Pacific gate

Architect : Kohn Pedersen Fox architects

Firmly rooted in its place, Pacific Gate’s design was inspired by curving natural forms and materials. Sweeping geometries make up the building’s podium and terrace while an angled roof line gives the soaring tower a distinctive skyline presence. Pacific Gate’s oval shape and orientation maximize waterfront views for each apartment.

Unique to the building’s design is its thoughtful integration of natural materials. At its base, a covered walkway with limestone detailing opens to Pacific Gate’s residential entrance court and lobby. Finished in stone, custom glazed terracotta, curved cast glass, and wood the space projects a welcoming elegance. Terrazzo flooring gives the lobby a plainspoken yet timeless feel, its soft warm tones providing a neutral underlay to the room’s textured walls. A carefully selected array of beautiful aggregates make up the terrazzo and are inspired by elements of San Diego’s waterfront location, including sand, sea, and sunlight, giving the material a subtle dynamism.
